Newsletter this week!

In 6th grade SS this week, we started off by looking at the geography of the Italian peninsula and it's influence on the Roman civilizations. We then investigated the "founders" of Rome: Romulus and Remus and their unusual upbringing. The students created either comics or storyboards to show their learning. We then looked at the early civilizations that had a great influence on Rome: the Latins and the Etruscans. We are finishing up the week looking at the steps that formed the Roman Republic starting with the Patty's (patricians) and the Plebe's (plebeians). Next week we'll work on Job Applications for positions in the Roman Republic. In current events, we've been using our Chromebooks and the site www.piktochart.com to create advocate posters. I can't wait to see their final published posters.

School Newsletter

This is what was put in the school newsletter that goes out on Friday. ---

This week was test week as we had map test on Monday and our Greek Test on Tuesday/Wednesday. I will get the essay portion graded as soon as possible. We will be finishing the week reflecting on our Greek unit and how we can improve on a day-to-day basis as continual improvement is our goal. The students will also get a new map with new countries that will be tested over in the future. So far in class, we have used our Chromebooks to create a marker/monument to that would be placed at one of the major battles in Greece, watch large group videos and individualized videos, read self-selected readings and complete mini-projects, used it instead of an actual Atlas to find a latitude and longitude point and countries, and reviewed for a test by playing Jeopardy in a Google Slides Presentation. In Current Events, we will be investigating the education mission of Malala. We use our Chromebooks almost daily in Current Events to discuss the news of the day. With everyone responding it gives everyone a voice in the classroom.
